Friso van der Oord is Director of Research, responsible for all NACD content development. He is an experienced governance advisor and business line manager, who has worked over the last 15 years with Fortune 500 and global executives on major risk, compliance and integrity challenges, including serving in leadership roles at CEB and LRN. He holds an M.A. in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University’s SAIS Program.
During her professional life, Reatha has served in a variety of careers. These included careers in corporate and nonprofit governance, business, philanthropy, higher education, and research chemistry.
During her tenure at General Mills Reatha served as President and Executive Director of the General Mills Foundation and Vice President of General Mills (1988 -2002) and Chair of the General Mills Board of Trustees (2002-2003), retiring from the Company in 2003. Before joining General Mills, Reatha was President of Metropolitan State University in the Twin Cities (1977-1988) and a professor of chemistry and Associate Dean at York College of the City University of New York (1968-1977). Prior to relocating to New York, Reatha was a research chemist for the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, DC (1962-1968) which she joined directly from graduate school.
Throughout her professional careers, Reatha has been heavily involved with board governance and the professional associations connected with her professional fields. She has served on the boards of ExxonMobil, Wells Fargo, H.B. Fuller Company, Minnesota Mutual Insurance Co., and Lenox Group, in addition to the boards of several nonprofits. She recently served as Chairman of the NACD board of directors.
Reatha holds a PhD degree in thermochemistry from the University of Chicago, an MBA from Columbia University, B.S. degree in chemistry and mathematics from Clark Atlanta University, and numerous honorary degrees and other honors. Most recently, she was inducted in the NACD 2017 Board of Directors Hall of Fame. Reatha and her late husband have two sons, three grandchildren and a daughter-in-law. Reatha is a native of South Georgia and a resident of the Twin Cities for 40 years.
Sven has been an independent financial consultant to emerging companies since 1999. During his 35-plus years in accounting and finance, he has experience as a certified public accountant (inactive), investment banker to emerging-growth companies, chief financial officer and audit committee chair.
Mr. Wehrwein currently serves on the board of directors of three public companies: AtriCure, Inc., a medical-device company, Proto Labs, an Internet-enabled manufacturing company, and SPS Commerce, Inc., a supply-chain management software company.
Mr. Wehrwein also served on the board of directors of Compellent Technologies, Inc. from 2007 until its acquisition by Dell Inc. in 2011, on the board of Vital Images, Inc. from 1997 until its acquisition by Toshiba Medical in 2011, on the board of Synovis Life Technologies, Inc. from 2004 until its acquisition by Baxter International, Inc. in 2012, on the board of directors of Image Sensing Systems, Inc. from 2006 to 2012, and on the board of Cogentix Medical, Inc. from 2006 to 2016, all of which were publicly traded companies.
