Ford Sued by Truck Owners Alleging Diesel Emissions Cheating

"Ford Motor Co installed software that enabled its F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks to cheat at passing federal emissions tests," according to a lawsuit by truck owners filed on Wednesday and reported on by Reuters (Jan. 10, Carey). The No. 2 U.S. automaker has described the claim as "baseless."  Regardless, the lawsuit charges Ford with violating federal requirements by manipulating the emissions system. The affected trucks reportedly released double the legal limits of emissions during normal driving as a result. Ford issued an official statement asserting that all of its vehicles comply with all EPA and California Air Resources Board emissions regulations.  "Ford vehicles do not have defeat devices," the company insisted. "We will defend ourselves against these baseless claims."
